Our Vision

Discrimination is one of Europe’s most pressing human rights concerns, affecting the lives of millions of people across the continent.

Amnesty International’s Fight Discrimination campaign aims to ensure that all individuals in Europe enjoy effective protection against discrimination.

Our Mission

Through its Fight Discrimination campaign, Amnesty International seeks to expose the impact of discrimination on peoples’ lives and empower individuals to claim their rights.

We will

Campaign for the introduction and effective implementation of comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation at the regional and national level
Campaign against discriminatory policies and practices - and for the introduction of effective measures to promote equal treatment - in a number of priority areas
Seek to combat the prejudices underlying discrimination

On 25 January 2012, a Court of First Instance in Madrid upheld the decision of the Institute José Cela, a public secondary school in Pozuelo de Alarcón (Madrid), to exclude Najwa from regular classes because she wore the headscarf at school.

Slovak court rules against segregation in education

The elementary school in the Slovak village of Šarisské Michaľany in the Prešov region must desegregate Roma classes as ordered by a court decision communicated earlier this month, said Amnesty International and the Slovak non-governmental organization (NGO) Center for Civil and Human Rights.
