Nine homeless Romani families temporarily settled by the Albanian authorities in tents on private land have been threatened with imminent forced eviction. No adequate alternative housing has been offered to these families.

The elementary school in the Slovak village of Šarisské Michaľany in the Prešov region must desegregate Roma classes as ordered by a court decision communicated earlier this month, said Amnesty International and the Slovak non-governmental organization (NGO) Center for Civil and Human Rights. 

One year after the forced eviction of 76 families (356 people), the majority Roma, from the centre of Cluj-Napoca in north-western Romania, Amnesty International stands in solidarity with the individuals affected in their fight for justice.

Amnesty international condemns the fire set in an unauthorized Romani settlement on 10 December in Turin and urges the Italian authorities to ensure that the victims of this racist attack obtain redress. The authorities should be diligent in ensuring that those responsible for this episode of discriminatory violence are prosecuted.  

The situation of a Roma family forcibly evicted from their Belgrade home and made homeless this week again highlights the need for the Serbian government to stop forced evictions and introduce legislation prohibiting them, Amnesty International said today.

Twenty-seven Roma families, including some displaced from Kosovo, are facing imminent forced eviction from their homes in the Serbian capital, Belgrade. The government, responsible for the eviction, has not provided them with adequate alternative accommodation.

Amnesty International has called on the Italian authorities to end discriminatory measures against Roma after the country’s 'Nomad Emergency' decrees were declared unlawful by the country's highest administrative court.
